Take your company's safety seriously and vet your business opportunities before you enter into them

Lisbon Portugal lawyer Carmen De Souza most likely didn't attend law school with the intention of becoming a criminal. However, that is exactly what happened. Here is a rundown of the events that led up to MX Properties attempting to find legal remedy again Ms. De Souza as well as many other individuals involved in this elaborate scheme.

MX Properties received a letter via their consultant Mr. John Diak after it had become known that the business partners that the consultant had introduced them to was not going to make good on their end of the agreement. This default on the contracts was currently costing MX Properties $1 million due to the money they had forwarded to these various entities in order to establish the financial backing they needed to move forward with their project.

Carmen de Souza had indicated that she had the ability to have the necessary project funding released so long as MX Properties was willing to pay her legal fees in the sum of $11,000. At first, they were hesitant since they had just been scammed by contacts of the consultant. However, after communicating with her directly and receiving written confirmation from her firm regarding their willingness to provide payment instruction to the banks to release funding upon receipt of the fees, they felt secure enough to wire the money and get their project back on track.

Again, MX Properties became the victim of fraud. Days after the money had been sent, project funding was still not available for use. Carmen de Souza sent several letters after the wire transfer had commenced, indicating that she had received the funds and that she had delivered the payment instructions as she had promised, but yet no money was made available. It was at this time that MX Properties knew that they had been scammed again and that it was time to take matters into their own hands.

They launched a public awareness campaign with two focuses. The first focus was to appeal to the conscious of the business partners as well as the lawyer to do what was right and what they had agreed to in order to get this project off the ground. The second focus was to let the public know what had happened to their company as a public service announcement that would hopefully prevent other companies from falling victim to this particular fraud ring.

While MX Properties is still struggling with finding a legal remedy for their particular situation, your company does not have to experience the same devastation. This article was written to serve as a cautionary tale and remind companies that there is no excuse for entering blindly into business opportunities because there is just as high a likelihood that your company will fall prey to scammers just as they had. And, it is a whole lot easier to prevent fraud that is it to recover from it.

When looking for a Lisbon Portugal lawyer to handle your company's legal needs, avoid Carmen De Souza. You can read about her fraudulent history here.
